What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is the therapeutic use of oxygen in a pressurized environment. By increasing atmospheric pressure, oxygen is more readily absorbed by the fluids of the body. When combined, increased atmospheric pressure and breathing extra oxygen unlock an amazing cascade of healing mechanisms.
What Makes HBOT at Healthspan Unique?
At Healthspan, we offer three different styles of hyperbaric chamber. Our soft shell, lie down chamber achieves 1.3 ATA, is climate controlled and has one oxygen mask. Our hard shell, mono-place, lie down chamber achieves 2.0 ATA, is climate controlled and has up to 2 oxygen masks. Our hard shell, multi-place chamber achieves 2.0 ATA, is climate controlled, has a flat screen tv, and has 4 seats with up to 4 oxygen masks. Sessions can be booked in 60–90 minute increments.

Our Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber (HBOC) is the largest soft-shell design available and is created for 2 adults to self-treat simultaneously. You can comfortably lay down or prop yourself up with pillows or blankets to read or work.
Three viewing windows illuminate the interior with room light and the gentle hum of the compressor is soothing. Many users take a nap, meditate or read during their session.
As the chamber slowly pressurizes you may feel as if you are swimming under water. At full pressure, you may feel as if you are 9-10’ under water which has been described as sleeping with a weighted blanket.
During this initial “dive” your ears may pop slightly as if you are in an airplane, but this sensation is only temporary and very mild. Users often report feeling extremely relaxed during the treatment and tend to nap or meditate for their session. Once complete, users report feeling relaxed, alert and well-rested. You may even sleep more deeply that night.
Duration is dependent upon the user’s goals and can range from 60-120 minutes. HEALTHSPAN members typically enjoy a mild hyperbaric session of approximately 1-hour.
It may take 5-10 minutes for the chamber to pressurize and 5-10 minutes for the chamber to return to normal pressure.
