Cold Plunge

What is Cold Plunging?

Cold plunging—also known as cold water immersion—is a recovery practice that involves immersing the body in cold water (typically between 37°F–59°F / 3°C–15°C) for a short period (usually 2 to 5 minutes). It is widely used for physical recovery, mental resilience, and overall wellness. Cold plunging is based on the principle of hydrotherapy and triggers various physiological responses, such as

  • Vasoconstriction: Blood vessels tighten, which can reduce inflammation and swelling.
  • Nervous system stimulation: Activates the sympathetic nervous system, boosting alertness and mood.
  • Hormesis: The body experiences a mild stressor that promotes adaptation and resilience.

How Cold Plunging at Healthspan Is Unique

Key Differentiators:
  1. No Ice Required
The Plunge uses built-in chilling systems that cool the water to as low as 39°F (3.9°C) without requiring added ice and ensures a constant temperature for maximum results
  2. Filtration System
Includes advanced filtration with ozone sanitation and a 20-micron filter to keep water clean—unlike many of our competitors.
  3. Aesthetics and Quality
Sleek, modern design with durable construction for safety and effectiveness

Considerations & Risks

While generally safe when done properly, cold plunging isn't for everyone. People with cardiovascular issues, Raynaud disease, or those who are pregnant should consult with a physician first. Always start with shorter durations and warmer temperatures to acclimate.

*Additionally, we do not allow the practice of aggressive breathwork or performance breathing techniques while cold plunging.

What can I expect from my cold plunge experience?

Our tubs are kept at constant temperatures (39 and 50 degrees respectively) and our expert staff will guide you throughout your experience. The water is cold so there may be an initial shock to the body, however, the benefits are amazing! Our team will work closely with you so you have a great experience and a very safe and effective session.

How often should I cold plunge?

While cold plunging is safe, we recommend 3-5 times per week.

What are some common breathwork practices I can use while cold plunging?

We prohibit the use of aggressive breathing techniques or performance breathing practices while cold plunging. The hormetic shock of cold water combined with the sympathetic response to the body can be dangerous if done incorrectly and should never be unsupervised. As such, we simply recommend using slow, controlled and even breaths while plunging
